Constantly drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Erica often experiments with various media and found materials.
She is particularly interested in exploring how the environment around us affect and influence our perception of ourselves, often creating ‘accidental’ artworks that respond to circumstances.
Fragmented Leaf (right) was inspired by two accidental finds: some old wire dug out of the ground, and the fragmented remains of a leaf found during a bushwalk.
Time and the natural environment had broken down the leaf leaving only the fragmented frame to outline the shape. Similarly, the manmade wire was also getting worn down by its environment, slowly rusting away.
By reshaping the metal wire into a fragmented, abstract leaf, the natural and the manmade merge to suggest the connection and interaction between the two, and how they affect one another.
Created as a digital image from an original photo, Budding (left) was a finalist in 2022 Nomad x NAS art competition and was selected as a label for one of Nomad Brewing’s limited release beers.
A close-up photo of a flowering cacti plant was digitally manipulated, layered and colour-enhanced to create an evocative, abstracted version of the original photo.
